What's New on the 2027 Ram 1500

The headline is muscle: an all-new Rumble Bee lineup of four widebody Quad Cab variants, and the return of the TRX wearing an SRT badge for the first time. The changes that matter more to everyday buyers are quieter, and most of them land on the mid-range trims.

The Seven-Engine Lineup

All seven powertrains pair to an eight-speed TorqueFlite automatic. The towing and payload figures below are maximums for each engine — and the maximum-tow and maximum-payload configurations are never the same truck.

What the Numbers Mean If You Tow

The practical takeaway runs against intuition. The Standard Output Hurricane — not the High Output, and not a V8 — is the towing champion at 11,530 pounds. The High Output's extra 120 horsepower costs you better than 2,000 pounds of trailer. And the highest payload, 2,340 pounds, comes from the lightest and least expensive engine in the lineup, the 3.6-liter Pentastar.

Underneath, the 1500 keeps its five-link coil rear suspension, with an available active-leveling air suspension that adjusts ride height for load and terrain.

Cab and Bed Combinations

The primary lineup offers three cab-and-box combinations, each available in 4x2 or 4x4.

Two additional widebody configurations sit outside the primary lineup and are offered in 4x4 only: a Quad Cab with the 5-foot 7-inch bed, which is the body the Rumble Bee introduced, and a Crew Cab with the 5-foot 7-inch bed.

Interior Space

Up front, every Crew Cab and Quad Cab delivers 40.9 inches of headroom, 40.9 inches of legroom and 66.0 inches of shoulder room. Fuel capacity is 26.0 gallons standard, with a 33.0-gallon tank available — worth having on the long runs between the Morongo Basin and the Coachella Valley.

Ram equips the 1500 with class-exclusive second-row RamBin in-floor storage, a flat-load floor and second-row seats with eight degrees of recline — the kind of detail that matters when the back seat is carrying passengers to Joshua Tree rather than toolboxes. The bed brings the class-exclusive RamBox cargo management system, relocatable anchor points, LED lighting, a bed divider and a multifunction tailgate with a center bed step.

Fuel Economy

The EPA has published a 2027 rating for one Ram 1500 configuration so far: the 4WD with the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8, at an EPA-Estimated 10 MPG city, 14 MPG highway and 12 MPG combined, on premium fuel.^‡ Ratings for the remaining 2027 powertrains have not yet been published, so we are not quoting figures for them.

Fuel grade varies by engine. The 3.6-liter Pentastar eTorque runs on regular; the Hurricane inline-sixes and the supercharged V8 recommend premium.

For towing specifically, the 1500 pairs the digital rearview mirror's tow mode with trailer reverse steering control, Blind-spot Monitoring with Trailer Tow Detection, and power trailer-tow mirrors with adjustable convex auxiliary mirrors.
