At Joshua Tree Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we're proud to serve the service members, veterans, and military families of the Morongo Basin — from Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree to Twentynine Palms and the Marines stationed at MCAGCC. Buying a vehicle while you're serving, retiring, or moving on new orders comes with a few extra questions, and a little preparation goes a long way. This guide walks through how military car-buying benefits actually work, what to bring, and how to stack every advantage you've earned.
Our own military appreciation package, High Desert Heroes, sits at the center of it. To see the full program — the dealership savings, eligibility, and ongoing owner perks — visit our High Desert Heroes military benefits page. If you're ready to talk specifics, our team is here to help.
Two Military Discounts You Can Use Together
One of the most common questions we hear is whether military discounts can be combined. In most cases, yes. Manufacturer-backed military bonus cash is designed to work alongside other publicly available retail incentives — national consumer cash, seasonal offers, and current promotions — because it comes directly from the manufacturer rather than the dealership's pricing.
For Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram shoppers, that manufacturer benefit is the Stellantis Military Incentive Program: a $500 Military Bonus Cash allowance toward the purchase or lease of eligible new vehicles. It applies to select recent-model-year CDJR vehicles, and because it's a manufacturer allowance, it generally combines with other new-vehicle offers.
Separately, our own High Desert Heroes package adds a dealership discount on top of that — the two are distinct programs, and qualifying buyers can use both. We keep the program specifics on the dedicated page so they're always current: see the High Desert Heroes discount details.
Proving Your Service: What to Bring
You don't need to carry a stack of paperwork to claim a military discount. For the manufacturer's Stellantis Military Incentive, eligibility is confirmed through a third-party verification service, which issues an authorization number you present at the dealership — you can start that process before you ever visit.
If you prefer to verify in person or need physical proof of veteran status, any of the following are widely recognized:
- ★A DD Form 214 showing an honorable discharge
- ★A retired military ID (DD Form 2)
- ★A driver's license with a Veteran designation
- ★A VA Veteran Health Identification Card (VHIC)
Lost your DD-214? You can request an official copy through the National Archives (NARA) before your visit.
Financing: Military Credit Unions vs. Dealership Options
Getting the right price is only half the equation — financing matters just as much. Military-focused credit unions like Navy Federal and PenFed are consistently among the most competitive auto lenders in the country, often beating traditional banks on rate. Many active-duty and retired members start there for a pre-approval.
You're never locked into one path, though. Our finance team works with outside lenders and can fold a credit-union pre-approval into your deal, or compare it against current manufacturer financing offers — which on select new vehicles can include promotional low-APR terms. The right answer depends on your credit, the vehicle, and the term, so it's worth running both.
Deploying or PCS-ing Overseas? Know Your Options
Service members heading OCONUS have a purchase channel civilians don't. Military AutoSource (MAS) — the only Exchange-authorized overseas car-buying program, operating for more than 60 years — sells U.S.-spec vehicles (Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram among them) on bases worldwide, with regulated pricing and a lowest-price guarantee, timed for delivery around your PCS.
MAS is a genuinely useful option if you're stationed abroad. If you're stateside — or already back in the high desert — buying locally means driving off the lot the same day, an easier trade-in, and a team down the road when you need service later. If you're weighing a trade as you settle in, you can value your trade before you visit.
Applying Your Benefit to a Lease
Prefer to lease? Military bonus cash isn't just for purchases. The Stellantis Military Incentive applies to leases as well, where the $500 can go toward your capitalized cost reduction — the lease equivalent of a down payment — lowering the amount you finance and your monthly payment. For service members who expect to relocate within a few years, a lease on a new, warranty-covered vehicle can be a practical fit.
Quick Answers Before You Visit
Are the dealership discount and the manufacturer rebate the same thing?
No — they're two separate programs. The Stellantis $500 Military Bonus Cash comes from the manufacturer; the High Desert Heroes savings come directly from Joshua Tree CDJR. They're combinable, so if you qualify for both, you can use both.
Does the manufacturer military rebate work on a lease?
Yes. The Stellantis Military Incentive applies to both purchases and leases on eligible new CDJR vehicles.
Who's eligible for the Stellantis Military Bonus Cash?
Active duty, Active Reserve, retired military and retired reserve, 100% disabled veterans, and veterans honorably discharged within the past 12 months. Eligibility is confirmed through a third-party verification service.
What should I bring to claim my benefit?
Your Stellantis authorization number if you've already verified online, or physical proof of service — a DD Form 214, retired military ID, Veteran-designated license, or VHIC.
How do I replace a lost DD-214?
Request an official copy through the National Archives (NARA) online before your visit.
